If you use your storage building to store a ton of tools and equipment, you might have found that you are running short on space. Of course, you can always look into adding onto your building or replacing it with a bigger one. If this is something that you want to avoid if possible, you should consider making some changes to how you store your stuff. If you follow these tips, you might find that it will help greatly improve the storage space in your building.
1. Install Shelving
First and foremost, if you have not yet installed shelving in your storage building, it’s a clever idea to do so. You can mount your shelves to the wall, or you can purchase freestanding units. Either way, having shelves can help you greatly increase the storage space that you have in your unit and can allow you to keep everything neat and organized.
When choosing to shelve for your storage building, make sure that you compare your options. Hanging up wooden shelves can be an obvious choice, but you can also consider buying a plastic shelving unit, which will be easy to clean.
2. Use Bins and Containers
Along with using shelving units to store your tools and other items, consider looking into using bins and containers to store things as well. For example, if you have small parts like nuts, bolts, screws and nails, keeping them separated and in their own separate containers can be a good way to keep them organized. Plus, if you use the right containers, you can stack them on top of each other to maximize your space even more.
You can purchase nice containers online or from mass market retail stores, but you might find that you have items around the house that you can use for storage purposes. Small boxes, food storage containers, buckets, Mason jars and more can all be used for storing things. Then, you don’t have to spend any extra money to organize the items in your shed, and you can feel good about “recycling” the items that you might not be using for anything else.
3. Install a Pegboard
Just as a nice pegboard is handy when installed on the wall of the garage, it can also be handy inside of your storage building from Timberline Barns or whatever other supplier you might have used. If you hang a large pegboard up on the wall, you can use it to hang up hammers, screwdrivers and other hand tools. Then, not only will they be out of the way, but they will also be easy to see and grab when you need them.
Even if you purchased a larger storage building, you might have found that you don’t have quite as much space as you would like. If you don’t want to add on to your building or buy another one, taking certain steps can help you maximize your space as much as possible. Then, you might find that your storage shed is big enough for your needs after all.
